Hot dog with pickled vegetable relish topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 4 hot dog sausages
- 4 cut on top hot dog buns
- 4 pieces of cheese, cut into 4 pieces
- 0.25 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- 0.25 tsp celery seeds
- 0.25 tsp mustard seeds
- 0.5 cup finely chopped pickles
- 0.25 cup finely chopped pickled yellow pepper rings
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped pimento peppers
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped pickled jalapeño pepper
- 1 tbsp finely chopped green onions
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- Ketchup and mustard for serving
Preparation:
- Make the garnish: Combine the apple cider vinegar, sugar, celery seed, and mustard seeds in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer until syrupy, about 2 minutes. Transfer to a bowl; let cool slightly. Stir in the pickles, yellow pepper, pimento, jalapeño, and green onions. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight. Season with salt.
- Preheat the grill to medium. Grill the hot dogs, turning them over, for 4-5 minutes. Open the hot dog buns and grill them cut-side down. Spread melted butter on the inside of the buns and place the cheese inside; let it melt for another 1-2 minutes.
Drain the garnish. Serve the sausages on cheese buns; garnish with ketchup, mustard, and the prepared pepper garnish.
You can add to this hot dog relish made from pickled bell peppers, onions, and cucumbers.
