Asian kimchi burgers

Ingredients:

  • 0.7 kg ground beef
  • 3/4 cup chopped drained cabbage kimchi
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely grated
  • 2 tbsp. l. brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark sesame oil
  • Vegetable oil, for grilling
  • 4 sesame seed hamburger buns, cut in half horizontally
  • Pickles and/or sweet potato chips, for serving

Preparation:

  1. Preheat the grill to medium heat. Combine the kimchi and mayonnaise in a small bowl. In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic, brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, 1 teaspoon salt, and a pinch of ground black pepper. Form into 4 patties, approximately 10 cm in diameter and 2 cm thick.
  2. Brush the grill grate with vegetable oil. Add the patties and cook until crispy grill marks appear and the sides are starting to brown, about 3 minutes. Flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium-rare.
  3. Grill the buns. Place the patties on the bottom halves of the buns. Top with kimchi and mayonnaise. pickles and cover with the bun tops. Serve with chips.
