Asparagus wrapped in bacon

Ingredients:

  • 900 g asparagus, ends trimmed
  • 12 slices of bacon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 110 g butter
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground pepper

Preparation:

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees.

    Divide the asparagus into 12 bunches. Wrap 1 slice of bacon tightly around each bunch, starting about 2 cm from the bottom of the tips. Secure the bacon-wrapped asparagus with a toothpick. Place the asparagus in a shallow baking dish.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter, soy sauce, garlic salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil. Pour the hot sugar mixture over the asparagus bunches.

    Transfer the dish to the oven and roast until the asparagus begins to wilt and the bacon looks cooked through, about 25 minutes.

    Remove toothpicks before serving.
