Ingredients:
- 1.5 cups lard, vegetable oil, bacon fat, or a mixture of these
- 2 cups of flour
- 10 cups (2.4 l) chicken or beef broth
- 2 cups chopped green onions
- 1.5 tsp salt
- 2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 0.5 tsp cayenne pepper
Preparation:
- Place a large skillet over medium heat and melt the fat for 2 minutes.
- Add flour, stirring the fat constantly.
- Once the fat and flour are combined, reduce the heat to medium and cook for 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Add the remaining ingredients and, still stirring frequently, bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer, stirring constantly, for 20 minutes.
