Crispy tofu in an air fryer topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
Tofu
- 1 block (450 g) extra-firm tofu
- 2 tablespoons lightly salted soy sauce or tamari
- 2 tablespoons dark sesame oil or vegetable oil
- 1 tsp rice or white wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- Special equipment: air grill with a capacity of 3.5 liters.
Dipping sauce (optional)
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 green onion, thinly sliced
- Chili oil or Asian hot sauce
Preparation:
- Tofu:
Pat the tofu dry and wrap it in a clean kitchen towel (see Note). Place it on a plate or in a baking dish and place the pan on top. Place canned goods in the pan to weigh it down and press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess water. Cut the tofu into 2-2.5 cm cubes.
- In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce, sesame or vegetable oil, vinegar, honey, and a large pinch of salt. Pour 0.5 teaspoon of the mixture into a small bowl for the dipping sauce, if making one. Add the tofu cubes to the remaining mixture and gently toss to coat. Let sit at room temperature for 15 minutes.
- Preheat the air fryer to 190°C (375°F). Arrange the tofu cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Fry, shaking the basket several times to ensure even cooking, until the tofu is deep golden brown and crispy, 15-20 minutes.
- Dip sauce:
Meanwhile, add mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon of water, a pinch of salt, and most of the green onions to the reserved marinade and mix well. Sprinkle with the remaining green onions and drizzle with chili oil. Serve the crispy tofu with the dipping sauce.
Note
The more liquid you squeeze out, the crispier the tofu will be. But you can skip this step.
