Vegetarian hot sandwiches topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp. l. olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 1 can (800 g) of canned whole tomatoes in their own juice, blended
- 700 g of seitan
- 0.5 cups premium flour
- 0.5 cups of cola
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 4 long buns, cut in half horizontally
- 220 gr. grated mozzarella
- 3/4 cup finely grated Parmesan
- 4 tsp chopped fresh oregano
Preparation:
- Heat olive oil in a heavy medium saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and 1/2 teaspoon each of salt and black pepper. Cook until golden brown, about 3 minutes.
Add tomatoes and simmer until sauce thickens, about 10 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 175°C.
- Cut the seitan into 1 cm thick slices. Mix flour, 1 tsp. salt, 0.5 tsp. black pepper and cola in a bowl.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed skillet over medium-high heat. Dip half the seitan in the batter, letting any excess drip off, and add to the skillet.
Fry, turning occasionally, for about 5 minutes.
- Transfer the seitan to paper towels to drain excess fat. Fry the remaining seitan in the same manner.
- Spread the seitan on the buns and pour the sauce over them. Sprinkle the buns with cheese. Place the buns on a baking sheet and bake until the cheese is melted, about 5 minutes.
- Serve sandwiches sprinkled with oregano.
